HOW TO DESIGN MOCKUP IN PHOTOSHOP | ADOBE PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL

 

While we see so many beautifully designed mugs, plates, cups, bottles, bowls and so many other things in the market, we feel to buy them all in one go. But do we ever wonder how are these designed and who design them? How these images look so real and lifelike? They are certainly so clear and of such high quality that they depict an actual product that one can own.

Designing a mockup is a task that requires an eye for attention to detail as the designer has to make sure of little things as those tiny mistakes makes huge difference in the design which for regular customer become a defect. Hence the product is considered a waste.

If you also want to ace the game of designing a mockup and become much better at your work then luckily, there is a way to do so. There are many video tutorials available online to learn the technique of designing a mockup but here is one detailed explanation of the steps included in the process.

Follow them to create your own mockup.

Press Ctrl + O

To create a Mockup you need a Base Image to put your design on.

You can use…

·         Well captured Product Photo,

Or

·         3D rendered object

Example: a Coffee cup.

Click on the side most option on your right and Create New Solid Colorlayer






Select create new fill or adjustment layer on your bottom right and select Solid color.

Type FSC450 and click OK as shown below

Click on Normal and choose Linear burn

Select Opacity and set it on 75% as shown in the screen below

Press Ctrl+ I (Invert mask), now Fill with White

Make selection for accuracy

Press Magnetic Lasso tool given by default on the rectangular tool tables at the extreme left of the screen and select the area as show in the picture.

Press alt/opt + Backspace

If you want to highlight, put layer into Group

Move mask into Group

Ctrl + Click on Mask

Activate image layer, Press Ctrl + J

Press Ctrl + I (inverse colors)

Select image, go to adjustments, and choose levels.

A dialogue box will appear. Set the input level as show in the image below and press ok

Ctrl + click on layer 1

Press Ctrl + C (copy)

Create Mask in Solid layer

Select Channels and Turn ON Eye

Ctrl + Shift + V (paste on place)

Turn off Eye.

Delete layer 1

See the difference! This is how you get going and can actually make a mockup that is as real as possible.

Make a new group and name it cup body.

New Layer inside Cup body Group

Rename Layer 1 as YOUR DESIGN HERE and select orange after clicking on eye as shown in the image.

Click on YOUR DESIGN HERE and select Convert to Smart Object. Click on eye and select orange again

The screen will display YUR DESIGN HERE. Psb @ 8.33% (YOUR DESIGN HERE, RGB/8)

Resize canvas if require

Go to Image, select canvas size and write 1417 for width and 1535 for height as show in the image

Design something Here

First I’ll add a base color

Select create new fill or adjustment layer on your bottom right and select Solid color and write F7EEDB and press Ok

Draw a rectangle from the rectangle tool in the tool box. Press on the option as shown in the picture. And place the text according to your choice.

Go to file, select save

Smart object auto updates on saving

Select Normal, click on linear burn

Set your fill at 75%

See, how texture looks

Ctrl + T

Left click on screen and choose warp



Pick the corners  and wrap them around the 3D product

Shape it along Flow of object

Bit bigger than cup.

Mask. Click on it

Select the magnet tool once again and border the bottom of the cup.

Press Ctrl + Backspace

Press Ctrl + i

Cup is selected , Now you have to

Press Ctrl + Shift + Click


Selection added

Ctrl + J

Select normal , linear dodge (Add)

Adjust it with levels

Go to image, select adjustments, choose levels and adjust them and press Ok.

Select create new fill or adjustment layer on your bottom right and select Solid color and adjust the color press Ok.

 


Click on Normal, Select Color


Alt + Backspace

You can change background color by clicking on background color eye.

Same with Lid

Your mockup is ready.

Practice occasionally to get better at it. You can use different images to ace the game and learn some more tips and tricks in the way. Now when you know the steps you can design any 3D mockup the way you want to. Follow every step and be an expert.
